Evaluating Websites

Evaluating Websites
One of the risks of doing a general search using a search engine such as Google, is that the information you find might not be credible. Before you use a source in your research, you must evaluate it.

Tasks:

  1. Complete this worksheet as you work through this module.
  2. Use The C.R.A.P. Test to evaluate one of the websites you found on gun control or gun violence and determine if it is a good source.

Gathering Sources

Google Search
When given the task of answering a question, most people immediately turn to Google.  That's not a bad approach when you need an answer fast.  However, when you need to dig a little deeper, it might not yield the best results.  In order to save yourself some time, an Advanced Search in Google can help you narrow down your search results.

Tasks:
  1. Complete this worksheet as you work through this module.
  2. Watch How to do an Advanced Search in Google
  3. Use our class topic (gun violence) and conduct your own Advanced Search
  4. Complete the Google Advanced Search Worksheet
